Talent Demand Up in IT/Telecom Sector Again: TimesJobs RecruiteX

The Sector Reports 3 Per Cent Jump in Demand for Professionals Even as Overall Hiring Stabilised in April, Shows RecruiteX

The demand for IT/telecom professionals rose by 2 per cent in April 2015 even as overall hiring sentiments stabilised across functions, reveals the latest RecruiteX data, the recruitment index of TimesJobs.com. Talent demand in the IT industry had slipped by 3 per cent in March but hiring has picked up again with the rolling out of appraisals. 

From January to February 2015, there was an average rise of 5 per cent in demand for IT professionals. Year-on-year (April 2014 compared to April 2015), talent demand in the IT industry has increased by an average of 1 per cent.

"Indian IT majors have set the market mood with appraisals that were below expectations. IT professionals seem to be opting for better opportunities in e-commerce and product domains, leaving employers to bump up hiring to manage and rebuild the depleting talent pipeline," said Vivek Madhukar, COO, TimesJobs.com.

Among the other top 10 functions, media and entertainment professionals saw the highest jump in demand at 5 per cent rise during April 2015. Sales/business development, administration and marketing and advertising functions also reported an average 2 to 3 per cent rise in talent demand in April 2015, shows RecruiteX.

- Engineers, on the other hand, posted a 10 per cent drop in demand during the month. The demand has stabilised since the last one year (April 2014-April 2015).

- Among the top 10 sectors, BFSI, BPO/ITeS and consumer durables witnessed stable hiring activity (0 per cent), while petrochemicals and manufacturing saw an average 6 per cent drop in talent demand.

- Delhi NCR was the only metro to report a rise in talent demand in April at 13 per cent, shows RecruiteX. The region has posted a rise in hiring for the first time since January.

- Among the top 10 locations, Vadodara witnessed the maximum (18 per cent) rise in talent demand in April 2015 followed by Chandigarh (15 per cent), according to RecruiteX.

- Bengaluru, on the other hand, posted the highest drop in talent demand (16 per cent) followed by Chennai (15 per cent) in April 2015.

- Demand fell across experience categories, barring the 0-2 year segment that posted an 8 per cent rise in demand.

- Highest drop (14 per cent) in demand was observed for senior-level candidates with over 20 years of experience. Demand was stable (0 per cent) for entry-level candidates with 2-5 years experience.

In the TimesJobs.com Outlook Survey 2014-15, industry experts said that if appraisals in the IT/telecom sector were below employee expectations, companies were likely to see attrition rates go up across levels.
