Talent Hunt Event Organised by WizIQ for Thapar University Students

Online education platform, WizIQ conducted 'WizIQ Hackathon 2014' on October 29, 2014 at Thapar University, Patiala. The event was organised to provide a platform to budding engineers and software students of the institute to showcase their talent, interact with industry experts and build promising careers for themselves. The platform is planning to organise more such events in different colleges and universities across India.

The members of the winning teams were awarded attractive prizes and offered internship programs with WizIQ.

Dr. Maninder Singh, Associate Professor and Head at Computer Science and Engineering Department of Thapar University said, "This kind of event involving software development is happening for the first time in our institute. The event kicked off with introductory presentations by Rahul Singh, Vice President of Engineering and Gurjinder Singh, Director of Product at WizIQ. Participants were given on the spot topics, and time limit of 12 hours to develop their hack ideas and 300 seconds to present their hack. Over 120 students participated in the event and presented game changing ideas ranging from new products and apps to interesting new features for existing web products to revolutionise the world of online education.

The winning team presented Edu Graphs, a web based app for organising learning in the shortest time. The members of this team were Ayush Jain, Ashutosh Dhundhara, Kartik Arora and Vidhant Maini. The first runner up team developed an app for connecting needy students with philanthropists. The second runner up team developed a website based on the gamification model of learning.

Ashutosh Dhundhara says about the event, "Came with an idea, assembled the right team, got mentored in the right direction and achieved the ultimate glory, no day can be that awesome."

Rishabh Arora, member of the second runner up team says, "Hackathon - 2014 was a very unique idea for us till date. You have an idea that you think can rule and you get to showcase it, that too on such a big platform, that makes your senses go Yeeeah! It was a fun day for our crew. We worked on a lot of new features for our product which would have taken months to be implemented otherwise. The mentors from WizIQ were simply awesome. They were so patient and kind. Kudos to them! We learnt a lot, from all the perspectives, be it professionalism or business. Thanks to WizIQ for giving a platform to a group like us to showcase something that we had been working on since 3 years. Cheers to such an event and support from WizIQ."
