The Institution of Engineers (India) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Announce Joint Award for Engineering Excellence

Two of the globally acclaimed engineering professional bodies, The Institution of Engineers (India) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) have established a Joint Award titled the IEI-IEEE Award for Engineering Excellence to give global recognition to local engineering contribution par excellence. Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri, Government of India, has been chosen to receive the first IEI-IEEE Award for Engineering Excellence-2015.

The Jury for this Award comprising of eminent engineering practitioners, including Prof. B S Sonde, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Goa; and Dr. T K Alex, Padma Shri Awardee and Member, Space Commission have selected him as the recipient of this prestigious IEI-IEEE Award for Engineering Excellence-2015. The nomination process and guidelines for this Award were drawn up by Co-Chairs, Prof. R M Vasagam, Padma Shri Awardee and Chairman, IEI, Karnataka State Centre; and  Prof. H P Khincha, Chairman, Karnataka State Innovation Council, Government of Karnataka.

The scale and impact of Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy's contributions to Navigation and Avionics technologies, and the development of critical technologies for self-reliance in national security have been considered as outstanding, and the Jury is confident that the conferment of this Award on Dr. Satheesh Reddy would inspire engineering practitioners to dedicate themselves to the application of engineering for societal needs and advancement of humanity.

This Joint Award by the two premier global professional societies for Engineering was conceptualized by Dr. L V Muralikrishna Reddy, President, The Institution of Engineers (India); and Mr. Ramakrishna Kappagantu, Director, Region 10 IEEE and Board Member under the ambit of IEEE's JANS Award (Joint Award by National Societies) initiative that recognizes engineering contribution par excellence locally. The modalities for this Award was formalized by the Cooperation Agreement signed in the presence of the Presidents of the two leading Professional Associations during the visit of the IEEE President, Mr. Howard Michel earlier this year in Bengaluru. 

This award will be presented at the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Asia-Pacific Region (R10) of IEEE on August 24, 2016 at Bangalore.
