HYDERABAD, India, July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

(WHIN) Announced the Completion of 10 Years as a Leader in Providing Community Water Solutions in June, 2016 at Hyderabad

WaterHealth India, established in 2006, installed its first decentralized water purification system or WaterHealth Centre (WHC) at Vempa, Andhra Pradesh to provide safe drinking water at an affordable price to the underserved people of that village in the same year. Since then, WHIN has installed and is running over 450 WHCs serving underserved communities across the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikas Shah, Chief Operating Officer of WaterHealth said, "The past 10 years have been an incredible journey for us. We have constantly tried to improve our operations to satisfy the needs of our consumers. To that extent, WHIN has developed innovative products and services to drive sustainability, reliability and convenience. We are proud to be known as the market leader in the community water space today. All of which is due to the unflinching patronage of our consumers."

At the end of the 10th year of existence, the company has reached a 'tipping point' wherein the next decade will witness an exponential growth of the company's footprint.

WaterHealth India's business model involves setting up of WHCs within underserved communities through public private community partnerships. WHIN partners with local government bodies (Panchayats in rural areas and municipalities in urban areas) who provide land, water and an electricity connection for setting up the WHCs. The initial capital expenditure for constructing the WHCs is raised from international development agencies, trusts/foundations and corporates (under their corporate social responsibility initiatives). Thereafter, the company installs the plants, operates and maintains them for the tenure of the concession term before handing it over to the respective communities.

In the 10 years of its operation, WHIN has not just provided access to clean drinking water but also has driven social marketing programs to transform the habits and mind-sets of the target communities through awareness programs that highlight the advantages of safe drinking water. WaterHealth also prides itself in maintaining the highest quality and hygiene standards in the purification process as well as in the operation and maintenance of the plants.

Studies show that WHCs have positively affected lives of households consuming WHIN's branded dr. water by reducing morbidity and drudgery (time spent mainly by women and children in fetching water), increasing the number of workdays (earlier lost to sickness or in fetching water from distant sources), annual income and savings.

Having established itself in the community water systems industry, WaterHealth is diversifying itself into other customer segments in both rural and urban areas. The company entered the packaged drinking water business, a couple of years ago to provide clean, safe, affordable and reliable drinking water in the cities. WHIN's packaged drinking water plant is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Hyderabad, WaterHealth supplies packaged water (20 litre cans) to both corporate, small and medium establishments and retail customers.

WaterHealth is now launching a containerized plant that is compact and easily transportable for rapid deployment during disaster relief and defense operations. WHIN has partnered along with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and IRCTC for installing WHCs and water dispensing units in identified slums areas of Delhi and Water Vending Machines (WVMs) at railway stations at Delhi, Jaipur, Tirupati and Sholapur.

As WaterHealth India steps into the second decade of its operation, the company will hasten its work towards its mission of serving 100 million people by 2020, by providing access to safe drinking water to underserved communities while focusing on innovation and sustainability.
