What is Young India Planning to do on This Independence Day?
NEW DELHI, August 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Independence Day is around the corner. But, does it still hold any relevance for the young Indians who are perennially busy with their Facebook and WhatsApp feeds. Most of these youngsters don't know anything about how it felt to get Independence from the British.
We, at Baggout, decided to dig this deeper. Baggout surveyed its user base of over 8 lakh users to understand how relevant is Independence Day after almost 70 years of Independence, and how people plan to celebrate the day. The survey has thrown some surprising results so we decided to share the same with larger community.
Survey Summary:
The main insights which can be derived from the survey are -
1. The majority (89%) of people will celebrate Independence Day this year by doing something special.
2. People prefer going to flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programs (44%) or listen/watch patriotic songs/movies (18%) on the day.
3. Bulk of respondents (85%) said that they were going to respect it as a dry day and avoid liquor, which is surprising given the fact that it falls on weekend.
4. Most people (45%) plan to do some good deed like serving the poor and cleaning the neighborhood on the day.
5. Majority (91%) prefer staying in town over going out for a weekend on Independence Day.
6. We asked people if Independence Day has lost its significance but majority (87%) exhibited their admiration towards the day.
All in all, the survey throws light on the fact that Independence Day is still relevant today and the young India understands the importance of the same. The new India wants to work for the betterment of the society and does not shy away from shouldering the responsibilities.
