This Blockchain Center of Excellence (COE) is established to focus on solving real-world problems and building innovative blockchain solutions for various sectors - from financial services, aviation, healthcare, energy, and insurance to retail. Together, the two companies will enable organizations and governments realize the potential efficiency gains through blockchain technology.
Furthermore, through this partnership, Xebia and BlockSmiths are aiming to drive a three-fold initiative:

- Building a strong blockchain community and
- Sharing knowledge with industry and academic institutions

Blockchain came into existence in 2009 after the 2008 financial crisis when Satoshi Nakamoto released the famous Bitcoin Whitepaper. It is said to be one of the breakthrough technologies after the Internet in 1991 and has exponentially grown in relevance since its inception.
According to a study by the U.K-based research firm Juniper Research, 57 percent of large corporations were either actively considering or in the process of deploying blockchain.
