Design, Build:
The RDP ThinBook is sleek, matty black colored and 11.6 inch IPS screen gets immense appreciation, it has a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. As for the display, the screen is reflective but the viewing angles are pretty decent. The company has made a pretty fair choice by utilizing an HD IPS panel despite the budget constraint. Media consumption on this laptop is fairly substantial - the video quality is crisp, sharper and viewing angles are remarkably good - thanks to the HD IPS display. Longer periods of watching videos wouldn't be an issue.
The keyboard and trackpad of ThinBook are much better than expected, the palm rest area is spacious and there's a generous trackpad with great trackpad buttons. The keyboard area consists of well-spaced chiclet keys and there are LED status lights above the keyboard for power, num lock and caps lock. The touchpad is small, but it's surprisingly responsive and smooth with intuitive smart gestures.
Performance:
As far as performance is concerned, RDP ThinBook does fairly well.
The ThinBook is built on an Intel® Quad Core x5-Z8350 Processor, which has a burst frequency of up to 1.92GHz. It is also equipped with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage and an integrated Intel HD 400 graphics. As stated earlier, it also features an Optional HDD/SSD slot (DIY Model: customers can expand themselves based on their convenience with an additional HDD/SSD drive) and micro SD card slot.
The laptop ships with Windows 10 operating system and it runs relatively smooth on this ultra-cheap portable device. Even though, the laptop is powered by the Intel HD graphics we wouldn't recommend trying any high-performance games. It can be used for regular Windows Store games that use less RAM. The multi-touch trackpad on this cost-effective laptop is a bit tricky to use. Though the trackpad is comfortably placed, gestures are a bit off and one could be facing a lot of accidental clicks and unnecessary page zooms when using it for scrolling.
On the other hand, boot time was fairly good, with the laptop up and ready in a matter of seconds from the time one hits the power button.
Battery life:
The battery life of the laptop is great. A single charge can get more than 10 hours of mixed usage, this is completely subjective and will differ from user to user and how they uses it. What makes the battery last longer is the use of power-efficient hardware, that does not heat up. Using a flash storage instead of a hard drive also adds to the battery life. Recharging this battery takes a little more than 3 hours to top up.
Audio:
However, the audio output is pretty loud when placed on a flat surface. Media consumption shouldn't be a problem with these dual speakers. But one would be better off with an external speaker or with headphones for movies and music.
Verdict:
It is designed mainly for those who want to buy a compact and portable laptop. It is also good for those who need an affordable Windows PC to perform their daily tasks and is portable to be their companion. The battery is also good, so users can carry it along on business and personal trips. Only storage could be the problem for few but users can always expand the storage using external storage solutions (optional HDD slot/microSD card slot).
