WALNUT, Calif., June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HIO Project (www.hioproject.org), a development effort for building embedded systems and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, just launched a crowdfunding campaign for its new product, the 7" Wallpad.
The Wallpad is a 7" touch computer powered by HIO Project's modular expandable hardware platform. It can mount on a standard 2-gang electrical box, is powered by a Freescale ARM processor, supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) and comes with either Yocto Linux or Android preinstalled.
"Its size, open architecture and modular aspects opens up many possibilities," says Richard Fabiero, Product Marketing Manager for HIO Project. "Makers and developers are able to buy the core-board, select the ready-made modules or design custom modules to build embedded systems and Internet of Things (IoT) devices that fit their needs."
Thanks to its touchscreen, I/O options, and processor, the Wallpad can be used for endless applications including home and office automation, automation gateways, smart appliances, kiosks, hospitals, RVs, audio equipment, security surveillance or whatever the embedded needs are.
The core-board of the Wallpad is powered by the Freescale ARM Cortex A9 dual core processor making it an ideal solution for industrial grade, fanless, cost-sensitive devices requiring high performance, low power consumption, and long life cycle support.
"Community or development boards such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi use low-performance microcontrollers or processors, which are designed only for the initial stages of product development and prototyping," says Bin Lin, Chief Architect of the Wallpad.
