"Not Because It's Easy" Rekindles the Can Do Challenge of Space Exploration
Novel Released on the Eve of the 44th Anniversary of Apollo's Moon Landing
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Author and Emmy winning television producer George C. Schellenger's novel "Not Because It's Easy" released this summer is a metaphorical autobiography of Project Apollo about one man's quest to rekindle the space program and another's assignment to stop him at all costs.
Schellenger's, Knox Long, a steely-eyed moonwalker astronaut turned billionaire is up to something big, and National Security Agent Hunter Algier, an aviation specialist, is on orders to find out what it is.
For Algier, the assignment has him tracking down three artifacts from Roswell, New Mexico; surviving a shootout on a golf course; and coming face-to-face with a Tiger Shark at night.
The real adventure begins in a cave full of poisonous spiders somewhere in the Caribbean, ending in orbit above the planet. Success or failure on the mission could be the difference between reaching Algier's ultimate goal or unwittingly aiding in the destruction of the free world.
AmericaSpace.com reports all systems go for this adventure tale: "Not Because It's Easy" offers a welcome diversion for space buffs who want to get excited about the future of human space flight. For those who want to put down the technical manuals and just read an exciting romp that centers on human space flight—this is for you."
The Apollo Program was first conceived during the Presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower as a three man spacecraft to follow the one-man Project Mercury, which put the first Americans in space. John F. Kennedy's address on May 25, 1961 set a national goal of "landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth" by the end of that decade. Apollo 11 kept Kennedy's promise when it landed on the moon on July 20, 1969—44 years ago this month. Apollo continued its mission with a total of 12 men walking on the moon. The last landing on the moon was in December 1972.
