NEW YORK, April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly" has teamed up with ultra marathon runner, author and motivator Dean Karnazes for "Regis & Kelly's Run Across America with Dean Karnazes," a coast-to-coast challenge designed to inspire Americans to get up, get active and get healthy. As part of the "Run Across America," Dean is hosting a series of 5K runs across the U.S. benefiting the charity Action For Healthy Kids, including an event in Indianapolis on Sunday, April 17, 2011, 7:30 a.m. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Established in 1909, the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway has long prevailed as an icon of motorsports excellence. In 1911, the first Indianapolis 500 was held at the Speedway and on May 29, 2011 the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race will be run. Over the years, the Indianapolis 500 has hosted the world's greatest racing drivers including Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Helio Castroneves and recent fan favorite Danica Patrick. On April 17, runners from all over the area will have the chance to experience the thrill of racing - on foot - in this world-renowned facility.
Local runners are invited to come out and join Dean Karnazes as he pauses in the midst of his nearly 3,000 mile run to participate in this special local 5K. Interested runners can register by logging on to LiveRegisAndKelly.com and clicking on the "Run Across America" logo.
"Regis & Kelly's Run Across America with Dean Karnazes" is the popular morning talk show's most ambitious undertaking yet. Beginning in Southern California on February 25 with a spectacular kick-off event at The Disneyland Resort, Karnazes is undertaking the unthinkable: he's running nearly 3,000 miles, averaging an unbelievable 40-50 miles daily, nearly the equivalent of two marathons every day. From California, he's made his way cross-country through the Southwest, passing through Arizona and New Mexico on his way to America's Heartland. After running through Kansas, Missouri, Indianapolis and Ohio, he'll head down to the nation's capital, then travel north through Maryland and Pennsylvania, before completing his journey in mid-May when he runs into LIVE's New York City studio, live on the air.
In addition to sending an important message about health and fitness, the run also will benefit Action for Healthy Kids®, the nation's leading nonprofit and largest volunteer network fighting childhood obesity and undernourishment. Action for Healthy Kids helps schools become healthier places and teaches kids to eat right, be active every day and ready to learn.
