12-year-old college student, Adrian Romoff, to debut at Lincoln Center on Sept. 16
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass., Sept. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Adrian Romoff, a 12-year-old piano virtuoso and Bard College at Simon's Rock sophomore, will make his Lincoln Center debut Sept. 16 at 8 p.m.
Berwald, Mendelssohn, presented by American Classical Orchestra, will feature Romoff performing Felix Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor on fortepiano. Romoff—who has been compared to Mendelssohn, a child prodigy himself—has been playing the piano since age 4. He has performed in world renowned venues like Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Tchaikovsky Music Hall, and the Apollo Theater.
"I love this concerto and look forward to performing it with such an amazing orchestra," Romoff said. For months, he and his mother, Olga, have been making weekend trips to Maine, where the fortepiano on which he practiced—and will perform on at Lincoln Center—was handcrafted. Romoff had the opportunity to meet the maker, Rodney Regier.
The piano prodigy has also excelled academically, finishing high school at age 11, and becoming one of the youngest students to be accepted to Simon's Rock, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Romoff is concentrating in pre-engineering and computer science, and is considering the dual degree program with Columbia University. "I like that Simon's Rock has that opportunity," he said.
He is especially looking forward to the class, History of Video Games. Fluent in English and Russian, Romoff studied French his first year at Simon's Rock and this year, will also be studying Chinese.
