13th Season Of Ask This Old House® Premieres On PBS October 2nd

CONCORD, Mass., Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Host Kevin O'Connor, general contractor Tom Silva, plumbing/heating expert Richard Trethewey and landscape contractor Roger Cook are hitting the road again and traveling cross-country to teach practical home improvement lessons to homeowners and millions of viewers.

In Season 13, Ask This Old House devotes an entire special episode to examining the serious drought that has affected a third of the country. Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore shares some staggering statistics, while our experts provide affordable solutions for coping with these unprecedented conditions. During the episode, Richard and Kevin visit Las Vegas and Lake Mead, the largest manmade reservoir in the US whose water levels are at an all-time low.

Other stops over the course of the season include Orlando, where Roger explains how to care for backyard citrus trees in the face of a disease that's killing 20-30% of trees statewide, and Kansas City, where the guys help a homeowner install a natural gas line for a new grill (making time to sample some local KC BBQ as well!). The team also visits San Francisco, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Maine and West Virginia, continuing to help make beautiful spaces for everyday homeowners.

The popular "What Is It" franchise, the fan-favorite segment in which the guys try to stump each other with strange-looking tools, returns with some new surprises this season. A NASA astronaut from the International Space Station makes a guest appearance, bringing along a tool that's literally out of this world.
