3,500 volunteers to package 1,000,000 meals with Luther Automotive and Stop Hunger Now.
Luther Automotive's third annual Drive to Serve community event.
MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Luther Family of Dealerships, Emergency Foodshelf Network and Stop Hunger Now are joining forces for this visual event and bringing together 3,500 employees, customers, kids and families to package one million, highly nutritious, vitamin fortified meals.
From Friday, February 22nd through Sunday, February 24th, 3,500 volunteers will assemble ingredients, weigh, seal, and package food to be distributed to hungry children in developing countries. This year's event will be held at 6325 Sandburg Rd. Golden Valley, MN (just a few miles from downtown Minneapolis). Volunteer sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 12:00 to 5:00 on Sunday. The Twin Cities community has been encouraged to join Luther Automotive employees and customers by signing up for a two-hour session to help package meals.
Why? To combat global hunger and help feed families in the Twin Cities.
Volunteers are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Emergency Foodshelf Network, Luther Automotive's local hunger relief partner for this event. Also, for each bag of Stop Hunger Now food packaged by volunteers, Luther Automotive will donate 25 cents to Emergency Foodshelf Network.
"We're not striving to beat last year's numbers, we're just dedicated to feeding more hungry people," said Barb Hilbert, Chief Financial Officer for Luther Automotive.
