37th Annual Staser Fall Scholastic Chess Tournament Set For November 17 at the Great Park
- American Chess Equipment and Hanley Chess Academy Teams with the Great Park to Present Challenging K-12 Tournament
- Tournament features both an unrated and rated section for the first time
IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Scholastic chess players are invited to challenge their creative minds at the 37th Annual Staser Fall Scholastic Chess Tournament presented by the Orange County Great Park, Hanley Chess Academy and American Chess Equipment on Saturday, November 17th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Historic Hangar 244 at the Great Park.
The competition features a free unrated section eligible to all scholastic participants grades K-12. New this year, the competition also includes a United States Chess Federation rated section, available to scholastic participants, grades K-12, for an entry fee of $10. Advanced registration for both the unrated and USCF rated section is required.

The Staser Chess Championship was created by Miley Staser to give students throughout the southland an opportunity to meet over a chess board, enhance their learning and life skills through chess and make new friends.
Free Unrated Section
To register for the unrated chess tournament section, send an email to [email protected] by Friday, November 16, at 10:00 p.m. with the participant's complete name, grade and school. The unrated section is free to all scholastic players K-12. Players will be separated into sections by grade level and will play against every person in their section during the course of the tournament. Medallions will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place players in each section of each grade. Every player will receive a certificate of participation.
USCF Rated Section
There is a $10 fee to participate in the USCF rated chess tournament. The USCF rated tournament consists of three sections: The Open, U1000 and U500/UNR. The USCF rated sections are open to the first 72 paid players who register. Register online at www.hanleychessacademy.com/Staser.html . Trophies will be awarded to 1st through 5th place winners in each section.

All boards and sets will be provided by American Chess Equipment. Chess sets will also be available for sale during and after the event.
