3M Named Platinum Award Winner by the Marketing & Sales Executives of Detroit

DETROIT, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- 3M, a technology company known for innovation, was awarded with a 2014 Platinum Award by the Marketing & Sales Executives of Detroit (MSED) for the outstanding sales accomplishments of the company's Automotive Marketing Technology Manager, Scott Taylor and the 3M™ Wheel Weight System team. The award was presented at MSED's 21^st annual awards gala recently held at the Detroit Athletic Club.

Taylor and 3M were recognized for an impactful new business win secured for the 3M™ Wheel Weight System – which provides lead-free wheel weights that are designed to have less impact on the environment than standard lead wheel weights – with a global automaker at one of its major European manufacturing plants.

The new business was successfully landed thanks to the 3M team not only managing the entire bidding and implementation process – which is an achievement on its own, as the 3M™ Wheel Weight System is a 'disruptive technology' that requires vehicle manufacturers to agree to change their production line and overall process in order to implement it – but also by coordinating the involvement of two competitor companies on the project.

Taylor and 3M also went the extra mile by immersing themselves in the current production system that the automaker was using. This allowed them to demonstrate in detail, using the automaker's own production data, how the 3M system could be a benefit and could help lower costs and improve production times.

The success of this project was seen as a major win and accomplishment for the 3M™ Wheel Weight team, as convincing an automaker to embrace a new and disruptive technology is always a challenge. Now that the benefit of the system is being seen, 3M hopes it will lead to similar success with other automakers around the globe.
