45th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® Flight Goes Carbon Neutral For Second Year
Strive™ Fuel to Offset all Flights and Plant 550 Trees in the Santa Fe National Forest During Festival
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® has teamed up with Strive™ - Reduced Emissions Fuel, currently available at ALON 7-Eleven gas stations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa, Texas, to offset emissions for carbon neutral hot air balloon flights. In addition to reducing the harmful emissions of nearly 100,000 gallons of propane, Strive™ will also plant a tree in the Santa Fe National Forest on behalf of each 550 hot air balloons participating in the popular event.
"As our goal is to create a fun, celebrated event each year in Albuquerque, we also want to leave the city better off than when we arrived. Teaming with Strive™ allows us to do that since we are offsetting harmful emissions that are put into the atmosphere as a result of each balloon flying with propane," says Paul Smith, executive director for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. "We are positively impacting the environment through those offsets and by planting trees in our national forest. Created through a partnership between ALON Distributors and GreenPrint, the Strive™ Fuel program reduces carbon emissions sustainably and counteracts the negative effects they can have on the atmosphere, climate and lifestyles. To offset the balloon flights, Strive™ will invest in U.S. based carbon reduction projects to eliminate emissions that harm the atmosphere. The projects are certified and verified to sequester carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. In addition, Strive™ Fuel is partnering with The Arbor Day Foundation to plant 550 trees in the Sante Fe National Forest, ensuring a long-term localized carbon reduction solution for the balloon emissions. All of this is in addition to the ongoing investment Strive™ Fuel is making in Albuquerque and West Texas to offset tailpipe emissions for ALON's customers and to plant trees locally in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, and the Albuquerque School Gardens Team.
