$5 Million Left To Raise To Complete Flight 93 National Memorial Honoring The Heroes Of September 11

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Park Foundation's Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign announced today that $5 million in private funding is still needed to complete the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA. Since 2005, the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, has worked with its partners and over 100,000 donors to raise funds to build the permanent memorial honoring the heroes of Flight 93 and September 11.  Once raised, the funds will complete the Memorial's original design features including a Learning Center that will more fully tell the story of Flight 93 and a 'Tower of Voices' with forty wind chimes to be located at the entrance to the Memorial.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, the Flight 93 National Memorial will honor the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93. The observance ceremony will be held from 9:45am to 10:30am, during which time names of the passengers and crew will be read aloud with the tolling of the Bells of Remembrance. A moment of silence will be held at 10:03am, the time that United Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. Various educational programs and tribute events will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2012, and Sunday, September 9, 2012.
