6WIND Turbo IPsec Software Wins VNF of the Year at Network Virtualization and SDN World Madrid

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- 6WIND, a high-performance networking software company, today announced 6WIND Turbo IPsec™, a scalable software appliance for security and VPN solutions, won Virtual Network Function (VNF) of the Year at Network Virtualization & SDN World in Madrid, Spain last week. 6WIND Turbo IPsec is the industry's first and only high performance, hardware-agnostic IPsec software that is ready-to-use for secure connectivity solutions. It combines security, routing and firewall features to be deployed in bare metal and virtual machine configurations on Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) servers.

IPsec is a necessary security technology for Telco, Cloud and Enterprise Network Operators as it is used to create secure tunnels between trusted endpoints for services. Tier-1 US and European Telco Operators deployed 6WIND Turbo IPsec to secure LTE networks and high speed communication between data centers, in addition to wireline security and IPsec aggregation. Performance scales linearly with the number of cores applied to the software starting at 5 Gbps per core on x86 servers, with recent benchmarks demonstrating 150 Gbps in bare metal and virtual machine deployments.

6WIND's Turbo IPsec software displaced incumbent purpose-built IPsec Gateway solutions as it is less than 1/2 the price versus specialized hardware, scales linearly per core on demand and can virtualize VPN solutions in Network Function Virtualization (NFV) configurations. With a virtual machine configuration, customers gain increased flexibility versus hardware appliances and reduce CAPEX by combining 6WIND Turbo IPsec with additional services, such as load balancers, next-gen firewalls, and more on the same COTS server, increasing productivity and generating new revenue streams.

"Our Turbo IPsec software on COTS servers is gaining traction as an alternative to expensive hardware and we are proud for this recognition as VNF of the Year," said Eric Carmès, CEO and Founder of 6WIND. "6WIND Turbo IPsec right sizes performance at an attractive price versus specialized hardware, making network security affordable and scalable for all size networks."
