A Better Way: Empowering the Patient-Citizen Through Universal, Portable and Continuous Interlocking Health Care Coverage
TROY, Mich., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 22nd, House Speaker Paul Ryan and chairs of the House Republican Task Force on Health Care (Congressmen Tom Price, John Kline, Fred Upton, and Kevin Brady) announced A Better Way, Our Vision for a Confident America, a health care policy statement featuring universal, portable and continuous health care coverage.
This policy paper is significant to increasing the availability of health care coverage for all Americans. It is fully consistent with the policy statement Improving Health and Health Care, an Agenda for Reform, co-authored by David Wilson of Wilson Partners. This earlier statement, released December 9, 2015 at the American Enterprise Institute, tackled many important issues central to the continued reform of health care in our nation.
David Wilson acknowledged the significance of Speaker Ryan's announcement and the broad consensus for a single Republican health care reform proposal. "This important policy statement is consistent with and builds upon the sustainable principles identified and explored in Improving Health and Health Care, inclusive of: universal, portable, and continuous health care coverage.
"It is critical that health care reform invests in and actively empowers the patient-citizen, individual improved health and wellbeing, and the patient-physician relationship," stated Wilson. "The House's policy statement captures the importance of this investment in the individual patient, their improved wellbeing and access to health care.
"This is accomplished by putting the patient-citizen first, in an intelligent patient driven interlocking system of coverage that includes: Medicaid, tax credit supported individual coverage, employer insurance plans and Medicare," explained Wilson.
One of the principles of the House's proposal is to "Provide all Americans with more choices, lower costs, and greater flexibility." This empowerment of the individual patient-citizen is the central framework of the AEI statement, and the backbone of David Wilson's extended commentary.
