A Blind Elimination Challenge Mishap Sees Tammy Wood from Agassiz, B.C. Sent Home From CTV's MASTERCHEF CANADA

– Three eliminated home cooks attempt to cook their way back into the kitchen in the next episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA on Sunday, April 19 at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. CT) –

TORONTO, April 12, 2015 /CNW/ - Sea snails and conches were on the menu on tonight's MASTERCHEF CANADA, which saw Tammy Wood (@saucysgotgame) of Agassiz, B.C. eliminated from the competition by judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile. The difficult Elimination Challenge saw the home cooks switch stations after they had already chosen their ingredients, forcing them to rethink their culinary vision. The next episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA airs Sunday, April 19 at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. CT) on CTV and CTV GO, and features the biggest twist yet: three eliminated home cooks – Andrew Al-Khouri of Halifax, N.S.; Cody Karey of Vancouver, B.C.; and Kevin Gregory of Fredericton, N.B. – are given the second chance to cook their way back into the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen.

In tonight's episode, the remaining Top 8 home cooks were surprised to discover MASTERCHEF judge, Chef Graham Elliot in a large Mystery Box. After being revealed, he presented the home cooks with the smallest Mystery Boxes in MASTERCHEF CANADA history, which were filled with tiny proteins and vegetables. Initially baffled by the petite ingredients, and facing large expectations, the home cooks battled to create art on a plate for the four judges. The judges called forward four dishes for tasting, and ultimately named David Jorge the winner, who was granted immunity from the Elimination Challenge, and was given the power to choose the live underwater creatures his fellow home cooks had to prepare – clams, crab, or a combination of conches and sea snails.

With the reveal that conches and sea snails had been chosen, the home cooks planned their dishes and selected their ingredients – only to find out that they were all switching cooking stations and instead had to work with the new ingredients at hand. The home cooks were challenged to adapt to the unfamiliar choices, and some shone, while others fell short. Christopher Siu's paella and Michael Motamedi's ceviche were named the top dishes, while in the bottom two, Jennifer Innis' cioppino didn't feature the seafood prominently enough, and Tammy Wood's conch ceviche was deemed too dry and lacking balance by the judges. In the end, Tammy said a tearful goodbye as she left the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen.

In the next new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA (Sunday, April 19 at 7 p.m./8 p.m. CT), three eliminated home cooks – Andrew Al-Khouri of Halifax, N.S.; Cody Karey of Vancouver, B.C.; and Kevin Gregory of Fredericton, N.B. – return for a single chance to cook their way back into the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen, by preparing three egg dishes in eight minutes. The home cooks then face a demanding Elimination Challenge, replicating the first dish that one of the MASTERCHEF CANADA judges mastered as a professional chef.

3. Jennifer Innis, a Dental Hygienist from Vernon, B.C.
4. Jon Hameister-Ries, a former Pro Football Player and Financial Advisor from Vancouver, B.C.
5. Line Pelletier, a Canadian Military Veteran and Computer Specialist from Moncton, N.B.
6. Michael Motamedi, an Entrepreneur from Toronto, Ont.
7. Sabrina Poirier, an Office Manager from Montréal, Que.
