TiVo, Inc. Research Report
TiVo thrives on existing cable television aficionados who want to have total control of their TV experience by allowing them to record their favorite shows and watch them at a later time using a standalone TiVo television or a TiVo tuning adapter. This makes TiVo a modern version of the VCR. The company sent a massive assault to Netflix and other television providers by fully acquiring TRA, a research company that succeeded in devising a system that enhances a person's TV viewing experience by matching it with his/her purchasing behavior and viewing history. Though flooded by privacy related criticisms and concerns, the said innovation continuously helps TiVo and its advertisers easily determine which TV shows or networks will make a better impact for targeted products. Through this, TiVo is able to further strengthen the trust of its network partners, advertisers and investors. Thus, helping the company recuperate from its recent financial losses despite considerable gains in market share and the 250 million dollar patent lawsuit settlement the company received from Verizon last year.
