A Spring of Inspiration and Innovation -- Shanghai Design Festival 2013

SHANGHAI, Aug. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The China (Shanghai) International Building & Interior Design Festival 2013 (IDF) came to a successful end on 3 April 2013 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. It was organized by UBM Sinoexpo and concurrently held with Expo Deco. The Shanghai Design Festival 2013 provided inspiration, innovation and opportunities for businesses involved in the design, construction and decoration of fine space through a blend of high-level forums, competitions, and displays.

With the support of the China Institute of Interior Design, the Interior Design China Magazine and the Sino-Italy Campus of Tongji University, the Shanghai International Building & Interior Design Conference - 'No Limits to Design: Bridging the Communication Gap' - gathered together design gurus such as Adam Khan, the winner of the Architect of the Year 2012, and Marco Piva, the winner of the European Hotel Design Award to Shanghai, to make speeches. They joined forces to examine the meaning of classic design cases both in China and overseas, and to analyse overseas advanced engineering cases and international design trends, as well as to discuss architecture and interior decoration culture collisions between east and west.

The International Hospitality Design & Engineering Forum gathered leaders from the China Tourist Hotel Association, designers and engineering directors from Wanda Hotels & Resorts, the Greenland Group, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, New Century Hotels, as well as famous hotel designers from USA and Italy, and engineering system and product suppliers from MEGAMAN, LEGRAND, etc. They discussed the general direction of design and technology in the Chinese hotel industry with the audience, as well as putting forward their reflections and creative ideas.

In addition, the Hotel Plus - Mockup Hotel Room Show was another highlight. It invited world famous hotel management groups, design teams and high-end engineering material manufacturers to design and set up six demonstration hotel rooms, and the total exhibition area was about 1,000 square metres. Cutting-edge decorative art, green materials and new concept designs were used to showcase the standards for star-rated hotel guest rooms, the future hotel engineering standards, as well as to guide future understanding and the practice of interior design alongside hotel engineering standards. All of these not only stimulated development trends, but also provided interior design reference points and overall engineering solutions for star-rated hotels.

Featuring the Chinese painter, Lu Zhide, the Shanghai Celadon Art Gallery presented a ceramic painting gallery with a theme featuring modern Shanghai. The Mosaic Art show provided the audience with luxurious mosaic art treasures incorporating Italian classic design and innovative craftsmanship, a showcase that ensured visitors a fresh visual feast.

Further, authorities such as the British Building Research Establishment (BRE), The Chartered Institute of Building, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Architectural Society of China and the Interior Design Branch of the China Construction Institute, all launched events such as the Ecobuild China Conference during the show. They explored hot topics such as the design profession's view of globalisation and cultural diversity, digital design trends and new technology applications, business strategy and innovative design, and much more.

Alongside with Expo Deco 2014, the China (Shanghai) International Building & Interior Design Festival 2014 (IDF) will be held from 31 March to 3 April 2014 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
