AURORA, Ill., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Gas prices in Illinois and northern Indiana remain high for mid-October when prices normally drop due to decreased demand. AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased $.02 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.92 per gallon for the month of October, which is $.41 higher per gallon than last year.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.85, which is down 7 cents from September 2010 and up $.38 from October 2009.

"While gas prices have dropped slightly from September's highs due to the pipeline leak, oil prices are up about 5 percent from September, which is causing retail gas prices to remain high," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago.
