AARP Members A Force In Every Race In Idaho's Primary

Race-by-Race Breakdown Reminds Candidates 3 out of every 10 Ballots Cast to Come from AARP Members – 50 plus to make up 56% of Votes

BOISE, Idaho, May 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While the results of Idaho's primaries are hours away from being known, one thing is for sure, AARP members will be a force at the ballot box.  While 56% of all votes cast in Idaho elections are expected to come from someone age 50 or older, three out of every ten voters will likely be an AARP member.

Today, AARP is taking the opportunity to remind Idaho's candidates of this -- releasing a race-by-race breakdown of its members, and urging the candidates to address the issues that matter most to Idaho's 50 plus population – nearly half of whom are AARP members.

The Idaho breakdown comes on the heels of a recent survey where AARP found 85% of its members in the state have little to no confidence in their state elected officials (http://bit.ly/aCwHL7) and they want to know where the candidates stand on several key issues including: resolving Idaho's state budget issues; protecting living wills and advance directives; and taking large special interest campaign contributions out of Idaho state politics.

AARP has voter education efforts underway in every Congressional, statewide, and state legislative race in Idaho.  As part of those efforts, AARP is conducting a voter guide for every race in Idaho, with the questions coming from AARP members, giving candidates the opportunity to state their positions on several key issues to the 50 plus in Idaho.
