(Apple) announced that it has agree to acquire Beats Music (subscription streaming music service) and Beats Electronics (maker of the popular Beats headphones, speakers and audio software) for a total of $3 billion, which consists of a purchase price of approximately $2.6 billion and approximately $400 million that will vest over time. "Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "That's why we have kept investing in music and are bringing together these extraordinary teams so we can continue to create the most innovative music products and services in the world." Sony Corporation Analyst Notes
On May 28, 2014, Sony Corp. (Sony) announced that it will be partnering with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for hosting public viewing of the events in Côte d'Ivoire during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where Côte d'Ivoire will be an Africa representative. Côte d'Ivoire is set to face Japan in the countries' opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, which will kick off on June 14, 2014. Sony stated that these public viewing events are an opportunity for it to enhance its brand recognition and generate interest in its products among local communities. In the public viewing events, JICA, as a part of its technical cooperation projects, will organize a series of programs such as quizzes and plays to promote social cohesion, in which the local youths and children will play the lead roles. Fabrinet Analyst Notes
On May 29, 2014, Fabrinet's stock declined 4.80% to end the day at $18.63 compared to the previous day's closing price of $19.57. On the same day, the Company announced the pricing of its previously announced underwritten public offering of 3,150,000 shares of its ordinary shares by its shareholder Asia Pacific Growth Fund III, L.P. The Company stated that the shares of common stock were offered in one or more transactions in the over-the-counter market or through negotiated transactions at market prices or at negotiated prices. Fabrinet expects the transaction to close on June 3, 2014. Westport Innovations Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 6, 2014, Westport Innovations Inc. (Westport) announced a collaboration with Kroger in order to meet Kroger's environmental sustainability goals. Kroger placed an order for a total of 40 Westport iCE PACK systems to be integrated onto Kroger's Freightliner natural gas trucks, which will also feature the Cummins Westport ISX12 G engine. According to Westport, all 40 trucks will be delivered to Kroger by the end of summer 2014, supporting Kroger's corporate goal to improve its fleet efficiency by increasing miles per gallon and load capacity. "Westport iCE PACK™ provides Kroger's natural gas trucking fleet with a cost-effective way to help meet their sustainability goals," said Mark Aubry, Vice President, Sales and Marketing of Westport. "As one of our first customers of iCE PACK, our latest technology for fleets running on LNG, Kroger clearly demonstrates their leadership in identifying new solutions that help continuously improve their fleet efficiency."
