ACRL To File Federal Lawsuit in Michigan Eastern District Challenging President Trump's Executive Orders on Immigration

DETROIT, Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today (Tuesday), January 31, 2017, the Arab-American Civil Rights League (ACRL) will hold a press conference at the Theodore Levin Federal Courthouse to announce today's filing of a federal lawsuit on behalf of several of its members challenging the constitutionality of President's Trump's executive order.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court - Eastern District of Michigan, alleges that the order is unconstitutional because it bans Muslims and Arabs from Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. The named Plaintiffs are individuals who are lawful permanent residents of the United States and citizens of one of the seven countries subject to the ban in Trump's executive order. While lawsuits have been filed and stays granted, the ACRL files this suit to demand lawful permanent residents, who were denied boarding at foreign airports, be permitted to return to the United States.

The ACRL strongly opposes these actions as they are designed to target immigrant communities and are disgracefully timed during an urgent humanitarian crisis. We have committed to take action as we witness the demoralization of our Founding Articles and hold the President accountable for defending the Constitution of the United States of America.
