ACT-IAC Announces 2018 Awards and Award Winners

FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), the premier public-private partnership dedicated to advancing government through the application of information technology, today officially announced the winners of this year's ACT-IAC awards.

Each year ACT-IAC is honored to recognize extraordinary individuals in government and industry deserving of our respect and acknowledgement; those who have made significant contributions to improving government and to government-industry collaboration.

The following ACT-IAC awards were presented at Imagine Nation ELC 2018, October 14-17, 2018.

• ACT-IAC Government Executive Leadership Award – Conferred in the spirit of John J. Franke
• ACT-IAC Industry Executive Leadership Award – Conferred in the spirit of Janice K. Mendenhall
• ACT-IAC Collaboration Award
• ACT-IAC Education Award – Conferred in the spirit of Ginny McCormick
• ACT-IAC Individual Contributor of the Year – Industry
• ACT-IAC Individual Contributor of the Year – Government
• ACT-IAC Rookie of the Year

Each award considered the impact in creating a more effective, innovative and responsive government through contributions by members of the ACT-IAC organization or government personnel with extraordinary impact. Each aligns with the ACT-IAC strategic priorities of education, leadership, and collaboration.

ACT-IAC Government Executive Leadership Award – conferred in the spirit of John J. Franke.

The ACT-IAC Government Executive Leadership award was presented to Kay Ely (GSA) for making a difference in the federal community, contributing in the spirit of the ACT-IAC mission, leaning forward with new methods and approaches, and creating a more effective, innovative and responsive government over time.

This is the highest award given to qualified candidates and is presented to a government individual who has been extra extraordinary, impactful, an innovator and a contributor to the federal community over a sustained period of time,  The spirit of this award embodies John J Franke, an early adopter who began a movement towards a more efficient government.

ACT-IAC – Industry Executive Leadership Award – conferred in the spirit of Janice K. Mendenhall

The ACT-IAC Industry Executive Leadership award was presented to Mitzi Mead (Accela Consulting) in recognition for her significant contributions in improving government and ACT-IAC, sustaining achievements, serving as a mentor, strengthening government and industry relations, and for exemplifying the best public service.

This is the highest award given to qualified candidates and is presented to an individual from industry who has been extraordinary, impactful, and has contributed to both ACT-IAC & Federal community over a sustained period of time. The spirit of this award embodies a life-long civil servant and exceptional leader, Janice Mendenhall was known for her dedication to mentoring others and strengthening government and industry relations.

ACT-IAC Leaders Award

The ACT-IAC Leaders Award was presented to Ken Allen (ACT-IAC) in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to ACT-IAC and better government. Mr. Allen has enhanced the federal government mission delivery and improved operational activities as executive director of ACT-IAC.

ACT-IAC Collaboration Award(s)

This year's award was presented to several teams from government and/or industry who have made a difference in the federal community through collaboration and acted in the spirit of the ACT-IAC mission, while driving new methods and approaches and creating a more effective, innovative and responsive government over the last 5 years.  The award recognizes the collaborative, extraordinary, impactful, and innovative contributions to ACT-IAC and the federal community over the last 5 years.

The ACT-IAC Collaboration Award was presented to the ACT-IAC Government Innovation Community Advisors which included Alexis Bonnell (USAID), Arianne Miller (OPM), Nagesh Rao (SBA), and Jim Thompson (State Dept.).

The ACT-IAC Collaboration Award was presented to HHS Buysmarter Team which included John Gentile (HHS), Lori Ruderman (HHS), Kenneth Thomson (Nationwide IT Services), Christos Steadas (HHS), Ginny Aristorenas (HHS), Sisley Chung (Nationwide IT Services), Lisa Harper (Data Federal), Stephen Woodring (The Clearing), Sean Follin (The Clearing), Deneen Brent (Nationwide IT Services), Margo Thomas (The Clearing), Jose Arrieta (HHS), Oki Mek (HHS) and Clarence Randall (HHS).

The ACT-IAC Collaboration Award was presented to the OPM HR Line of Business Team which included Anita Murray (OPM), Marcel Jemio (OPM), and Jeffrey Pollack (OPM).

ACT-IAC Collaboration Award was presented to the Management and Modernization COI Leadership Team which included Stu Hammer (Perspecta), Daniel York (GSA), Vera Ashworth (CGI), Eric Stogoski (Earnst & Young), Melvin Brown (DHS), and Colleen Law (SIE Consulting).

ACT-IAC Collaboration Award was presented to the Emerging Technology COI Blockchain Playbook Team which included Sandy Barsky (GSA), Sherri Sokol (DISA), Star Vanamali (Sapient), and Venkat Kodumudi (CGI).

ACT-IAC Education Award – conferred in the spirit of Virginia "Ginny" McCormick.

The Award for ACT-IAC Government Contributor of the year was presented to Soraya Correa (DHS) and the Industry Contributor of the year was presented to Todd Hager (Macro Solutions) in recognition of their significant contributions in educating, sharing knowledge, and bringing awareness towards a more effective and efficient government.

The spirit of this award embodies Virginia "Ginny" McCormick, a long-time government servant who worked for General Services Administration for 46 years before retiring. Through her work with the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils (FGIPC, now ACT) and the ADP Council of the Southeastern States, Ginny helped define the government-industry partnership as we know it today.

ACT-IAC Contributor of the Year Award

The Award for ACT-IAC Government Contributor of the year was presented to Darren Ash (USDA) for his significant involvement in the federal community and actions aligned to the spirt of the ACT-IAC mission.  The ACT-IAC Industry Contributor of the year was presented to Susan Becker (Unisys) for her significant contributions over the current year and making a difference in ACT-IAC.

ACT-IAC Rookie of the Year Award

The Award for ACT-IAC Government Contributor of the year was presented to Jeff Flick (NOAA) and the Industry Contributor of the year was presented to Charlotte Lee (Kastling) in recognition of their volunteer work having made a significant contribution to ACT-IAC within the last two years.

The open nomination period ended Friday, September 17, 2018.  The final selections were made by the ACT and IAC Executive Committees.
