Additional Club to Host Junior Pheasant Hunt in Berks County

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In addition to the junior pheasant hunts announced on Aug 24 (see News Release #091-11), Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today announced a Berks County sportsmen's club has signed up to host a junior pheasant hunt, and there is a change to contact information for the Greene County junior pheasant hunt.  The clubs will share in about 1,800 pheasants the agency is providing for junior pheasant hunts, which will be held on Oct. 8.

In Berks County, Bally Sportsman's Club will host its junior pheasant hunt at the club for 25 juniors.  The deadline to register is Sept. 15.  Contact Bruce Moll at 610-845-0224. The addition of Bally Sportsman's Club increases the list of those clubs hosting junior pheasant hunts to 24, which is the same number of clubs during 2010.

In Greene County, the Covered Bridge Chapter RGS and Tri-County Quality Deer Management association will host its junior hunt at the McCann Farm for 35 juniors.  The registration deadline is Sept. 15.  The new contact person is Brian Hanna, who may be reached at 412-296-1178 or email  [email protected].

Eligible juniors must be between 12 and 16 years of age, and have successfully completed a basic Hunter-Trapper Education course.  There is no requirement that participating juniors purchase a license, but they must wear the necessary orange and be accompanied as required by law.  

The junior pheasant season runs from Saturday, Oct. 8, through Saturday, Oct. 15.  The season also takes advantage of many schools having off for the Columbus Day holiday.  In addition to the pheasants being provided to clubs hosting a junior pheasant hunt, the Game Commission will stock 15,000 pheasants for the junior pheasant season on various sites throughout Pennsylvania on Friday, Oct. 7.
