Aditazz and Kurt Salmon Win Kaiser Permanente Contest to Design Small Hospital of the Future
ATLANTA, March 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A submission by health care design firm Aditazz was selected as the joint winner of Kaiser Permanente's Small Hospital, Big Idea competition, beating out more than 100 proposals from around the world. The Aditazz team brought together several internationally renowned firms to develop the innovative, inter-disciplinary concept—with Kurt Salmon serving as the lead operational and financial planners for the submission.
Participants were tasked with creating a 100-bed hospital that changed the paradigm of care delivered by a small hospital—a hospital with the service, convenience and community signature of an intimate environment that still provides the clinical capabilities, quality, operating efficiency and financial viability of a much larger institution.
"Working in a true cross-boundary collaboration with the building designers and behavioral simulation experts, Kurt Salmon really made a significant contribution to the Aditazz inter-disciplinary team," said Felicia Borkovi, a partner at Aditazz and the team leader for the final submission.
Kurt Salmon's operational and financial analyses focused on reducing the concept hospital's operating costs without sacrificing the patient experience. Through a series of operational innovations that were validated by Aditazz's advanced tools, Kurt Salmon worked with the team to help eliminate more than $12 million in annual operating expenses from the concept hospital's budget.
"This win demonstrates our creative and collaborative approach to problem solving that enables us to deliver innovative solutions to our clients," said Farzan Bharucha, a partner in Kurt Salmon's Health Care Group and a key member of the team. "As pressures to improve quality of care, enhance performance and cut costs drive change in the health care industry, it's essential to take a cutting-edge approach to solving difficult problems."
