Adrienne Shelly Foundation Honors Comedian Sarah Silverman at 4th Annual Woman of Vision Salute at Museum of Modern Art

NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Adrienne Shelly Foundation (ASF), a non-profit organization named after actor and filmmaker Adrienne Shelly, who was killed in 2006, hosted its 4th annual Woman of Vision salute at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Saturday, October 25th. ASF supports women filmmakers with production grants.
The event featured a screening of the 1970 dark comedy WHERE'S POPPA starring Ruth Gordon and George Segal. Following the screening, Silverman took part in a discussion and Q&A with fellow comic and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" co-creator Lizz Winstead.
Dubbed "the most outrageously funny woman alive" by Rolling Stone, Silverman is a versatile performer whose repertoire includes film and television, stand-up comedy, online videos and publishing. In 2010 she released the New York Times bestseller, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee. Earlier this year she won an Emmy for her HBO variety special "We Are Miracles," which garnered two nominations, and was seen in Seth McFarlane's A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST. She also had a recurring role on season 2 of the Golden Globe nominated series "Masters of Sex." Her film credits include I SMILE BACK, TAKE THIS WALTZ, PEEP WORLD, I WANT SOMEONE TO EAT CHEESE WITH, THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, THE WAY OF THE GUN and the Walt Disney animated hit WRECK-IT RALPH.
Silverman was nominated for a 2009 Emmy for the Comedy Central series "The Sarah Silverman Program." She also won an Emmy in 2008 for her musical collaboration with Matt Damon. In addition, she was honored with a Best Actress Webby Award for her online video "The Great Schlep," in which she persuaded young kids to encourage their grandparents in Florida to vote for President Obama prior to the 2008 election. Her television credits include "The Good Wife," "Monk," "The Larry Sanders Show," "Seinfeld," and "Mr. Show with Bob and David."
In 1993 she joined "Saturday Night Live" as a writer and feature performer, and recently hosted the show for the first time.

Winstead, a stand-up comic and political satirist and activist, co-created and was former head writer of "The Daily Show." She also co-founded Air America Radio. Her television appearances include Comedy Central Presents, HBO, CNN as well as her regular commentary on MSNBC. She also writes satirical commentary for The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal and The Huffington Post. Her latest project, Lady Parts Justice, is the first Not Safe For Work comedy website that exposes politicians who vote against women.
