AES Tiete's Net Income Amounted to R$ 224.7 Million in 3Q13

SAO PAULO, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 7% growth in AES Tiete's (BM&FBovespa: GETI3 and GETI4; OTC: AESAY and AESYY) net revenue to R$ 580 million in 3Q13 was primarily driven by a larger volume of energy sold through other bilateral contracts, coupled with the higher volume and prices practiced on the spot market. This performance was partly offset by the seasonality of the energy sold to AES Eletropaulo during the period.
Operating costs and expenses, excluding depreciation, amounted to R$ 187 million in 3Q13, up 56% from 3Q12 (R$ 120.1 million), chiefly due to the higher volume of energy purchased to meet the expansion in the bilateral contract portfolio in the free market, as well as energy purchased in the spot market.
EBITDA came to R$ 393.2 million in 3Q13, down 7.1% year-over-year. This result can be primarily explained by the seasonality of the energy sold to AES Eletropaulo, in the same basis of comparison, coupled with the non-recurring positive impact from the sale of PCH Minas for the amount of R$ 10 million, which occurred in August 2012. Thus, the net income resulted in R$ 224.7 million in 3Q13, representing a 7.9% decrease in comparison with 3Q12.
The operational highlight in the period was the increase in the volume of own energy sold for the post-2015 period (413 MWavg in 3Q13 versus 210 MWavg in 2Q13). This performance results from the commercialization strategy laid down by the Company for the period following the termination of the bilateral contract with AES Eletropaulo.
AES Tiete will distribute interim dividends to its shareholders in the amount of R$ 242.4 million, representing 107.9% of the quarterly net income. The dividend yield for 3Q13, considering both common and preferred shares, stood at 3.1%.
