AFPAware to Assist San Antonio Residents

AFP Annual Conference attendees can volunteer to give back

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) will host the third annual AFPAware event at its Annual Conference in San Antonio, November 7, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. AFPAware supports a healthier environment for AFP members, employees and the community, and is centered on the guiding principles of conservation, involvement, education and recycling. AFP will partner with a local organization, Family Service Association, and it invites conference attendees to join the community service event, exclusively sponsored by BBVA Compass.

Volunteers will help revitalize the Family Service Association's Neighborhood Place, where families, children, youth and seniors can attend a ballroom dance lesson, share parenting techniques, shoot hoops, learn computer skills, enjoy the playground, read a great book, and more. Last year the Neighborhood Place helped 90,000 families.

In addition to the Neighborhood Place event, AFPAware will host Paintfest with The Foundation for Hospital Art, whose mission is to give comfort and hope to those who suffer in hospitals by providing them artwork at no cost in order to soften the experience for patients, families and hospital staff.

The artwork for Paintfest is pre-drawn by Foundation for Hospital Art artists and color coded. AFP Annual Conference attendees will have the opportunity to paint during the Opening Exhibit Hall Reception on Sunday, November 7, Exhibit Hall Hours on Monday, November 8, and Exhibit Hall hours on Tuesday, November 9, until 2:00 pm.

The paintings will be displayed and presented during the closing general session, then donated to hospitals in San Antonio, Birmingham, Dallas, and Houston to brighten the experience for patients, families and hospital staff.
