AirTran Airways Reports Operational Excellence During Busy Summer Travel Season

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), reported strong operating performance during the busy summer travel season.

Earlier today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) released July statistics for all major airlines and AirTran Airways ranked number one among low cost-carriers in on-time arrivals and mishandled bags while continuing to rank among industry leaders with the fewest number of flight cancellations and customer complaints.

This significant operational achievement comes during the high demand summer travel season (May-August) and challenging weather patterns.  From May through August, AirTran served more than 9.1 million passengers, filling 85.1 percent of its seats.
