Ajax is the bet According to Desailly and Gullit

Ajax to beat Lyon at home is the best bet in the first Champions League round. That is according to football legends and Betclic.com ambassadors Marcel Desailly and Ruud Gullit.

Desailly is backing against the French sides as he believes they will concentrate more on League 1.

"The French league is getting interesting but it is a bit of a dilemma for the French clubs," said Desailly.

"It is more important for Lyon and Marseille to finish in the top three in Ligue 1 than going on a European adventure and in the first round of matches both Lyon and Marseille face tricky away ties. So I'm going against them and backing Ajax and Olympiacos to win."

Gullit is in full agreement with his former Chelsea team-mate and is backing Ajax for the three points and is pairing them with Manchester City, who are embarking on their debut season in the competition.

But the former European Cup winner believes the English side have the armoury to win their opening round match against Napoli.

"Manchester City looks like an outsider in this season's Champions League but Mancini knows the Italian game well so they should get past Napoli," Gullit said.

"The Italian side will struggle here and City should win rather easy. I think the Premier League side can win by three goals.

"Ajax vs Lyon is a much tighter match but the Dutch side have home-soil and the pace to beat Lyon. Secondly Ajax will be desperate for three points with Real Madrid the massive favourite in the group," he added.
