ALF's Official Charity Marathon Team Runs in 129th Annual Boston Marathon to Fight Liver Disease

BOSTON, March 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- American Liver Foundation (ALF) is proud to once again be a member of the 129th Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America which takes place on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Hopkinton to Boston. Team ALF, a dedicated group of runners, will take on the iconic 26.2-mile race to raise awareness and critical funds for the 100 million Americans affected by liver disease.

As the Boston Athletic Association's first official charity team, ALF has a long history in Boston. Since 1988, the American Liver Foundation Marathon Team has made a dramatic impact on the foundation's mission to improve liver health.

ALF has assembled a passionate team of runners, many of whom have personal connections to liver disease. Each participant has committed to fundraising efforts that will directly support ALF's mission to improve the lives of those living with liver disease.

ALF's 2025 National LIVEr Champion Cameron Dixon will be running in the Boston Marathon in honor of her mother who has a genetic liver disease called polycystic liver and kidney disease. Cameron Dixon stated, "I made the life-changing decision to become a living organ donor to save my mother's life. The surgery itself was daunting – lasting nine and a half hours and involving the removal of 70% of my liver and my gallbladder. Donating my liver to my mom revealed the strength and courage we both possess and reinforced my commitment to leading a life dedicated to helping others."

Liver transplant recipient and primary sclerosing cholangitis patient (PSC) Keith Tully joins his daughters as he returns to run his 12^th Boston Marathon after a 6-year hiatus due to liver disease. The Tully's are currently the top fundraisers this year and this is his first Boston Marathon post-transplant! Keith Tully stated, "The four of us are so excited to be joining forces this year to run the 2025 Boston Marathon in support of the American Liver Foundation, as advocates for liver organ donation, and in celebration of some very special triumphs against liver disease that have touched all of our lives. Because this is such a momentous year for all of us, we have set an ambitious fundraising goal. We are excited to line up in Hopkinton this April and are incredibly grateful for all of your generosity that will get us there."

Additional Team ALF Members include:

• Tina Chirgwin – Tina's mother died from alcohol associated liver disease in 2005 at the age of 47. Her uncle and godfather also died from liver disease. As a nurse for over 20 years, she has cared for many patients with liver disease. Since 2019, she has been a liver transplant nurse coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital.
• Molly Dillion – Molly's father received a liver transplant on November 9, 2022 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Molly also runs in honor of her uncle who passed away from liver disease.
• Sophie Long - Sophie is a living liver donor and close friend of the Tully family. She's running in honor of her donor recipient. In February 2021, Sophie donated a piece of her liver to Caitlin Balint, an autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) patient and young mother, after seeing a post about her illness in a Facebook group.
• Jim Miller – Jim ran his first marathon when he joined Team ALF in 2000 participating in honor of his late father who passed away from liver cancer. Today at 72 years old, he has run in 34 marathons, including five 100-mile marathons, and this upcoming Boston Marathon will be marathon #300.
• Elizabeth (Libby) Mumm – Libby is a registered nurse on the transplant floor at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She's running in honor of her cousin, Adam, who lost his life while waiting for a liver transplant.

Team ALF members receive dedicated training support, fundraising guidance, and the opportunity to be part of a nationwide movement fighting liver disease. The funds raised will help ALF sustain vital programs such as Think Liver Think Life, a national public health campaign to educate Americans on their risk for liver disease, ALF's Patient Registry, the first-ever patient registry for all types of liver diseases, Caring Connections, an ALF peer to peer support program, and ALF Advocacy efforts in Washington that help increase federal funding for policies that improve the lives of those living with liver disease.
