alliantgroup and HISD Select Finalists for 2019 Elementary Science Teacher Awards

HOUSTON, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- alliantgroup and the Houston Independent School District (HISD) are excited to announce six finalists for the 2018 Elementary Science Teacher Award. alliantgroup created the program to reward local teachers who help increase student engagement through innovative lesson plans that emphasize the importance and intrigue of science. The award is one of many educational initiatives alliantgroup supports as part of its continuing commitment to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

The following finalists, selected by HISD and each from a different district region, will receive a cash award of $1,250, as well as an additional $500 for their classroom. One grand-prize winner will be recognized at an April 23 awards luncheon at alliantgroup's headquarters, and receive an additional personal cash prize of $3,500, plus $500 to put toward their classroom.

The six 2018 Elementary Science Teacher Award finalists are:

• Deidre Rickets, Stevens Elementary School - Achieve 180 Region
• Crystal Williams, Hartsfield Elementary School - Southern Region
• Sara Rodriguez, Shearn Elementary School - Northern Region
• Denise Conway, Helms Elementary School - Northwestern Region
• Anthony Jones, T.H. Rogers Elementary School - Western Region
• Minerva Perez, Burnet Elementary School - Eastern Region

From this group, a panel of HISD, alliantgroup and higher education representatives will choose the grand prize winner.
