Alzheimer's Association - NYC Chapter announces new hires for care and support program team

NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. The New York City Chapter is dedicated to ensuring local delivery of comprehensive care and support services for the thousands of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease throughout the five boroughs, and helping to advance Alzheimer's disease research. 

To meet the growing needs of New York City, Chapter Executive Director Christopher Smith stated, "We are pleased to announce the newest members of our Program Department. Reporting to Program Director Dr. Anafidelia Tavares, they will bring care and support in the preferred languages of underserved populations with Alzheimer's, their caregivers and all others affected by the disease. This multilingual, multicultural approach allows us a greater opportunity to exchange information and solve problems within individual communities."

Licet Valois, LMSW, MPS, appointed Care and Support Program Manager
Valois is a bilingual social worker who has been practicing in the field of dementia care for 14 years. She has a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College and a Master's in Clinical Counseling from New York Institute of Technology. She frequently lectures on dementia-related topics, healthy brain aging and caregiving issues, and has experience in supportive counseling, case management, outreach, education and advocacy. Valois previously worked with the NYC Chapter as Latino Outreach Manager and with the NYU Memory Clinic and Cornell Alzheimer's Prevention Clinic.

Eve Vaval, MSW, assumes the role of Care and Support Program Manager
Vaval has been working in the non-profit and social services field for 19 years and speaks fluent English, Haitian Creole and French. She served as Assistant Director of Field Operations and as Executive Director at BHRAGS Home Care Corporation and is experienced in outreach to community-based and social service organizations that provide needed services for clients. Vaval earned a Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College and a Master's in Social Work from Stony Brook University. 

Pamela Skinner, LMSW, appointed Care and Support Program Coordinator
Skinner brings a diverse background to the position, having worked in consumer banking, retirement planning, financial services and legal marketing, most recently as a geriatric care manager. She earned a Master's in Social Work, Research from Fordham University and has served as an adjunct instructor in the Health and Human Services department at St. John's University. She worked with several issue-oriented non-profits, health and social service agencies and at a senior center in Queens prior to joining the Alzheimer's Association.
