Amdocs Participates in Industry Showcase that Demonstrates Future Service Provider Cloud Operations

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Service providers today are limited in their ability to monetize their cloud offerings since their systems can support only basic network resource planning capabilities and simple, subscription-based price-plans. As part of a TM Forum Catalyst project at Management World Americas taking place this week in Orlando, Amdocs, the leading provider of customer experience systems, will demonstrate new network resource planning and real-time charging models to help service providers better monetize cloud services.

The Catalyst project is sponsored by Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest service provider, and will showcase future service provider cloud operations using Amdocs, HP and Cariden products.  

"Together with Amdocs, HP and Cariden, we are demonstrating a systems environment that can support long-term resource planning for cloud services based on real-time service consumption and delivery levels. "The results are new revenue opportunities and a greater quality of customer experience not typically associated with today's cloud operations."

Catalyst systems and scenarios

The Catalyst will show interoperability of the Amdocs Inventory and Planning OSS products and the Amdocs Convergent Charging product (based on Amdocs' Turbo Charging technology), with the HP Universal SLA Manager and with Cariden's Data Network Planning and Service Availability Manager.

The Amdocs Inventory and Planning products will demonstrate long-term capacity planning to support network resource deployment for a new Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering for business customers. The Amdocs products will factor in real-time monitoring of network resilience and quality delivered by Cariden's Service Availability Manager. This combination delivers analysis of service delivery levels compared to the service level agreements (SLAs) provided by the HP Universal SLA Manager.

The Amdocs Convergent Charging product will demonstrate pricing and monetization models for cloud services using its real-time charging engine for both prepaid and postpaid services. The demonstration will include:  

• A dynamic pricing model - Service providers can set the optimal price for a service at any given moment, based on the load on the cloud platform and on service demand. Amdocs' charging product is the only product on the market that can offer dynamic pricing capabilities for cloud services;
• Real-time promotions and capping models - Offers the ability to up-sell to end users when they reach usage thresholds, or discontinue the service based on a pre-set credit limit;
• An SLA reconciliation model – Interoperating with the HP Universal SLA Manager, the Amdocs charging system will demonstrate reconciliation if services deviate from SLAs, and notify customers of discounts in real-time;
• Hybrid offerings bundling cloud and non-cloud services – Service providers can become a one-stop-shop for cloud and communications services to further differentiate from pure-play cloud providers such as Amazon that do not offer communications services.

The TM Forum Catalyst program calls for vendors to collaborate on solutions that culminate in live demonstrations, addressing service providers' most pressing requirements.
