American Association Of Critical-Care Nurses Creates Custom COVID-19 Online Course

New eLearning course and other AACN clinical resources are available to all nurses, at no charge, to provide vital resources during COVID-19 pandemic

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., April 1, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has created an eLearning course that specifically addresses the most serious reported symptoms from COVID-19.

"COVID-19 Pulmonary, ARDS, and Ventilator Resources" is available to all nurses, at no charge, to provide vital resources during this challenging time.

The course is designed to offer learners the knowledge and resources to provide essential care to critically ill patients with coronavirus.

"In just a few hours, nurses can refresh their skills or cross train staff with the latest information they need to provide care for those with COVID-19," said Julie Miller, BSN, RN, CCRN-K, a clinical practice specialist at AACN.

Learners are immersed in real-world clinical scenarios, while interactive elements encourage the development of safe and effective practices. The modules are divided into four units that cover:

Analyzing arterial blood gases and managing patients' oxygen delivery including oxygenation and ventilation
Caring for patients with acute respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
Administering care for patients requiring endotracheal intubation or invasive mechanical ventilation, and troubleshooting ventilators
Managing patients on mechanical ventilation, including spontaneous awakening trials, neuromuscular blockade, prevention of complications, weaning from ventilation and extubation.

In addition, AACN has made available several webinars and recorded presentations that provide essential educational resources for use in caring for the most vulnerable and critically ill patients experiencing COVID-19.

The new COVID-19 course is part of AACN's extensive library of eLearning courses, delivering standard-setting education and expertise that nurses and healthcare organizations can trust.
