American Mint Releases New Collector "KA-BAR" Knife To Commemorate World War II

MECHANICSBURG, Pa., Nov. 20, 207 /PRNewswire/ -- American Mint, LLC President Kevin Sacher proudly announced that the company is releasing a collection of "KA-BAR" collector knives dedicated to World War II battles. As the U.S. entered World War II, the military realized that there was a need for a multi-purpose knife. The knives that had been issued at the start of World War II were the same knives used during World War I, which were not practical to securely carry or grip due to the design. Union Cutlery Company designed and produced a fighting and utility knife that would become the "KA-BAR knife."
According to legend, the name KA-BAR was used after the company received a letter from a fur trapper who used one of their knives to kill a bear after his gun jammed, but the only legible letters were "k a bar," a fragment of the phrase "kill a bear." Due to its popularity, the USMC KA-BAR knife was later adopted by the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Underwater Demolition Teams.
The collection is strictly limited to 9999 complete collections worldwide and features 420 stainless steel with a leather and rubber handle. The obverse of the first offering features a detailed engraving of the iconic image of six Marines raising the American flag atop Mount Suribachi following the Battle of Iwo Jima, along with the dates of the battle.
