SOLANA BEACH, California, September 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
American Wave Machines, Inc. (AWM) announces the launch of OffShore Surf™, a comprehensive surf venue offering, and names veteran Location Based Entertainment executive, Greg Lombardo as the company's Chief Executive Officer. Lombardo formerly served as the Senior Vice President of Global Live and Location Based Entertainment for 20th Century Fox.
OffShore Surf combines an authentic surfing experience with food, bar and retail - all under one roof. Powered by American Wave Machine's breakthrough SurfStream technology, Offshore Surf offers visitors everything from soft rolling white water waves to hollow right and left barrels. The technology provides a deep-water surfing experience on real surfboards for all ages and skill levels in a compact footprint. A versatile platform for exhibitions, contests and events, OffShore Surf greatly expands the traditional surf market to attract aspirational surfers, wherever they live, in scalable indoor and outdoor venues of 15,000 to 25,000 square feet (4,572 to 7,620 square metres).
On the announcement, Bruce McFarland, American Wave Machine Founder, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Greg Lombardo as CEO of OffShore Surf. With a number of successful venues featuring our SurfStream® technology providing proof of concept for the out-of-ocean surfing market, we knew it was time to develop a standalone surf venue brand. Greg's expertise and more than 25 years of experience with many of the world's top entertainment brands makes him the perfect choice to lead OffShore Surf. With Greg on board we're going to bring the ultimate entertainment experience to millions around the world, engaging both beginner and expert surfers alike."
As traditional retail moves away from shopping districts, OffShore Surf hits the market sweet-spot of a highly repeatable entertainment concept that attracts a broad range of customers, from millennials to families, and drives foot traffic both day and night.
Lombardo has a proven track record delivering cutting-edge location-based entertainment experiences and is perfectly placed to drive OffShore Surf forward. During his tenure with 20th Century Fox, Lombardo built the location-based entertainment group and led development of such projects as the first 20th Century Fox World Theme Park - opening next year in Malaysia, "Avatar: Discover Pandora" global exhibition, Alien: Descent VR Experience and the popular Simpson's "Springfield" lands at Universal Studios.
"There is a tremendous appetite among consumers for micro-destinations that deliver a unique and socially shareable experience," explains Lombardo. "Surfing is one of the most aspirational sports in the world but until now, access to good waves has been a major barrier to entry. Backed by American Wave Machines technology, OffShore Surf offers everyone, everywhere an opportunity to catch their perfect wave in an authentic, safe and welcoming environment. I'm incredibly excited to lead the roll-out of this visionary sports entertainment product to markets around the world. You no longer need to live near an ocean to enjoy the sport and culture of surfing because OffShore Surf brings the waves to you."
From the Caribbean to Sweden, existing venues featuring American Wave Machines' SurfStream® technology include Surfs Up! in Nashua and Oasis Surf in Montreal, Canada.
