Andaz 5th Avenue Welcomes Their First Tattoo Artist in Residence
Tattoo and graffiti artist Mister Cartoon to offer hotel guests exclusive opportunity to jump one-year waiting list December 12-22
NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Andaz 5th Avenue, a hotel inspired by the culture of New York City, welcomes iconic tattoo artist Mister Cartoon for two weeks this December as the hotel's first Tattoo Artist in Residence. From December 12-22, Mister Cartoon will move into the hotel and turn one of the Andaz Terrace Suites into his temporary tattoo studio. He'll be offering any guests that book a room at Andaz 5th Avenue the chance to jump the year-long waiting list to be inked by one of the world's most renowned tattoo artists.
Famous for exposing both the "vicious and vulnerable" side of his work, Mister Cartoon has worked with Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. Mister Cartoon will take over the hotel's two-bedroom Terrace Suite, with a 793-square-foot wrap-around terrace featuring quintessential views of midtown Manhattan, including the Empire State Building, the iconic New York Public Library and the Times Square New Year's Eve ball. If you're a guest at Andaz 5th Avenue from December 12th to December 22nd, please call (818) 288-0491 to make your appointment with Mister Cartoon.
In addition, Mister Cartoon will spend five days creating a mural on the door leading to the bar downstairs as the second artist to participate in the hotel's tbd Art program, a rotating art series. Apart from living and breathing canvases, Mister Cartoon's art has also been on display in exhibitions such as MoCA's seminal Art in the Streets exhibit, which comprised one of the most comprehensive cross-sections of street art to date.
"Art is an integral part of Andaz 5th Avenue and we strive to find new ways to support art and design," says Jonathan Frolich, General Manager of Andaz 5th Avenue. "We are excited to welcome Mister Cartoon as our Tattoo Artist Residence, building upon our new tbd Art series and offering guests a unique opportunity to work with this famous artist."
tbd Art
The first year of rotating art launched on October 6th with artist M.Dreeland, who brought pop art style mixing basic acrylics and techniques from the old masters with high-tech tools of the present. In total, the hotel will have four diverse artists: M.Dreeland, Mister Cartoon, Claw Money and a final artist (currently TBD). Each artist will paint their "View of New York – Today" on the doors leading to the bar downstairs, located on the Fifth Avenue side of Andaz 5th Avenue. The project is curated by the SA Studios Artist Collective, and art enthusiasts can watch the artists at work and read about their experience by visiting http://andaz5thavenue.tumblr.com. Each piece of art will be photographed and turned into limited edition postcards sold for $5.00 each at the bar downstairs. Proceeds will be donated to charity.
