Anderson Named as Southwest Region Director
BOLIVAR, Pa., Nov. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today announced that William "Pat" Anderson has been appointed as the new regional director for the agency's Southwest Region Office in Bolivar. Anderson fills the vacancy created when Matt Hough was promoted to Deputy Executive Director earlier this year.
"Pat's experience and knowledge of the Game Commission, as well as the Game and Wildlife Code, will make him an outstanding Region Director," Roe said. "Pat has served in a variety of regions, bureaus and field positions, all which have made him uniquely qualified for his new position."
As region director, Anderson will be responsible for all Game Commission information and education programs and law enforcement activities in the agency's 10-county Southwest Region. He also will oversee the habitat improvement projects and all other land management activities on nearly 185,000 acres of State Game Lands in the region.
Anderson began his career with the Game Commission in 1975, as a Wildlife Conservation Officer trainee in the 16th Class of the Ross Leffler School of Conservation. Upon graduation in 1976, he was assigned to serve as a Wildlife Conservation Officer in Washington County.
In 1982, Anderson transferred to the Bureau of Administrative Services in the agency's Harrisburg headquarters, where he served as the License Division chief.
Returning to the field, in 1991, Anderson became a Land Management Group Supervisor, where he assumed responsibility for land management activities in Erie and Crawford counties. In this position, Anderson also worked with private landowners enrolled in the Game Commission Farm-Game, Forest-Game and Safety Zone public access programs.
In 1995, Anderson was promoted to the Game Commission's Northwest Region Office where he served as Federal Aid Supervisor, and then as Land Management Supervisor, beginning in 2003.
Anderson graduated from Tidioute High School in Warren County, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. He earned a bachelor's of science degree from Edinboro University in 1972.
Prior to employment by the Game Commission, Anderson served as Deputy Wildlife Conservation Office from 1974-75.
Anderson and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Ligonier, Westmoreland County. They have three children: Renee; Eric; and Heather Leonardi, who is married to Tim, and they have a son, Cooper.
The Game Commission's Southwest Region is comprised of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties. The office is at 4820 Route 711, north of Ligonier. The phone number is 724-238-9523.
