Animal welfare team intervenes to save 54 neglected pets in Gibson County
Animal Rescue Corps' Operation Dark Passage finds 53 dogs and a cat trapped in dirty, inhumane conditions at a collapsing mobile home
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a national nonprofit animal protection organization, announced today that it has rescued 53 dogs and one cat from two properties in Gibson County, Tennessee, where the animals were living in severe neglect.
ARC Executive Director Tim Woodward reported that during the rescue, known as Operation Dark Passage, volunteers discovered some of the animals penned outside with others left to run loose. Many were confined to a deteriorating trailer with rotting floors and no running water.
"This rescue is another solemn reminder of the urgent need for intervention in cases of neglect and cruelty," Woodward said. "These dogs and cat endured suffering most people cannot imagine. Today they begin a new chapter, and with help from our supporters and volunteers, they will finally find and come to know compassion and love."
The animals were surrendered into ARC's care and are now receiving necessary medical, physical and social support. They will soon be placed in ARC's trusted network of placement partners to find caring homes for the animals.
The 54 animals rescued in Gibson County bring the total number of dogs and cats saved by ARC in the last 12 days to more than 185, underscoring the relentless pace of ARC's lifesaving work.
"Cruelty doesn't wait, and neither can we," Woodward said. "But ARC cannot continue this work without the support of its donors and volunteers. Every donation helps us provide food, medical treatment and the chance for a brighter future to animals like those we've saved over the past two weeks."
