Students in middle school and high school will be encouraged to enroll in this summer's activities, which will include a two-day sports camp led by three-time Pro Bowl receiver and Pahokee-native Anquan Boldin and other top-name professional athletes from the area.
"The Anquan Boldin Foundation have been long-time supporters of our Pahokee youth, and we are excited to have Florida Crystals help us explore better ways to expand opportunities for the kids who need it," said Anquan Boldin. "We both share the same goals and passion to bringing our youth hope for improvement. This is the start of a very promising relationship."
The Q81 Foundation, established in Pahokee area in 2004 by Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowler Anquan Boldin, set forth a goal to provide quality after school programming in Pahokee, primarily for kids 13 and up who have very limited resources and support.
"The collaboration with the Anquan Boldin Foundation is an ideal fit within the framework of support Florida Crystals strives to build in the communities," said Pepe Fanjul Jr., Florida Crystals' executive vice president. "We are always ready to do our part as a proud member and partner in the community to help its next generation of leaders with their personal growth and development."
Florida Crystals, a Palm Beach County-based sugar producer, supports educational and developmental programs for youth and families in the tri-cities of western Palm Beach County, where the company has a majority of its Florida operations. The company has been an active member of the community since 1960, when its first sugar mill was built in Pahokee.
The summer programs will take place at Everglades Preparatory Academy, a charter school in Pahokee that was founded to give parents and students in the Glades communities a broader choice for high school education.
The Q81 Foundation announced the partnership with Florida Crystals at the Q-Festival Weekend's private Awards Dinner on April 14, following the foundation's Charity Golf Tournament at the PGA National resort.
