Seeks Input on Relevant Standards and Existing Gaps in the Built Environment

NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing efforts to assess the energy efficiency standardization landscape and carry out the development of a standardization roadmap for energy efficiency within the built environment, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC) is soliciting input regarding relevant standards, codes, guidelines, and conformance programs that are available or under development, and what perceived gaps in energy efficiency standardization and conformance activities currently exist. The EESCC is reaching out to current EESCC members and organizations in the ANSI federation, as well as other individuals and groups in the larger standards and conformance community and beyond.

The EESCC has set up online forms to make it easy for stakeholders to submit information about relevant standardization documents (standards, codes, guidelines, and regulations), conformance programs, and standardization gaps. Submissions should consider the following questions:

• What standardization documents or conformance programs related to the built environment currently exist and what are on the horizon?
• What is the goal of the document or conformance program in question?
• Who is the standardization document or conformance program intended to serve, and how is it being used in the market?
• Is the document or conformance program being implemented at the state or federal level?
• What building types does the document or conformance program apply to?

Submissions regarding major gaps, challenges, or untapped opportunities in the energy standardization landscape are also encouraged. Submitters are asked to explain why the gap is a priority, who the affected stakeholders are, and how the gap could be addressed by the public or private sector.

The database of all submissions will be available to EESCC members in the EESCC Document Library.

The EESCC will hold its inaugural plenary meeting on January 22-23, 2013, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Participation in the January plenary is free for all EESCC members. Register here for the plenary. A block of rooms at the Sheraton is available for Monday, January 21, and Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at a discounted rate of $209 per night, plus tax. The reservation deadline has been extended to Wednesday, January 9, 2013. Please note that this is a very busy week in DC and attendees are urged to make their reservations as soon as possible; availability of sleeping rooms at the hotel cannot be guaranteed after the room block is filled. The EESCC has also begun holding regular web meetings of its five Working Groups (WGs), which were created under the leadership of co-chairs from the public and private sectors to oversee areas of particular focus:

WG 1: Building energy and water assessment standards
WG 2: Systems integration and communications
WG 3: Building energy modeling, rating, and labeling
WG 4: Evaluation, measurement, and verification
WG 5: Workforce credentialing
