ANSI Releases Agenda for Joint Member Forum Meeting during World Standards Week 2017

NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released a preliminary agenda for its Joint Member Forum (JMF) October 19, 2017, in Washington, DC. With the theme Future Perfect, the JMF will explore emerging areas of technology and expert panelists will address how standards and conformance will serve a substantial role in the revitalization of business and industry in years to come. The day's lineup will include ANSI's Annual Business Meeting luncheon and will be held during World Standards Week (WSW), a series of meetings and celebrations hosted annually by the Institute, coordinator of the U.S. voluntary standardization system.

All ANSI members and interested stakeholders from government, industry, business, consumer groups, and academia are encouraged to attend and share their perspectives and expertise on integral industry news and updates that influence the standardization communities domestically and globally. The Institute's president and CEO and Board chair will present updates on ANSI's recent activities, accomplishments, and strategic direction during the Annual Business Meeting luncheon.

The day-long forum is free for all ANSI members, and will feature the following sessions:

• "Tech Trends 2017" will provide insights from Scott Buchholz, federal chief technology officer, Deloitte Consulting, into the macro forces that drive the disruption and transformation in many industry and technology sectors. Deloitte publishes an influential Tech Trends report, highlighting key areas that can benefit from strong partnerships among standards development, innovation, and research.
• A panel on "Virtual Reality and Machine Intelligence" will explore how standards support the numerous virtual reality applications used for business and leisure, especially as machine intelligence applications change the way we operate in the 21^st Century and beyond, from unmanned vehicles to robotics automation, cognitive assistance, artificial intelligence, and more. The session will be moderated by an expert from Corning Inc., with various technology leader panelists.
• "The Digital Transformation of Standardization" panel will look at efforts to digitize standards and their applications, as industry, government, and standards developing organization (SDO) stakeholders have recognized the need for growth in this area. The session will be moderated by a U.S. Department of Defense expert. Panelists will focus on the following topics:
• Creating new tools and methods to develop standards– including ways to get broader participation in standards development work – as well as new types of standards deliverables
• Exploring different publication formats like XML that are more flexible and robust
• Integrating standards directly into products, systems, and services
