Anytime Fitness Is Giving Away Hundreds of Free Memberships

ST. PAUL, Minn., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of the franchise's 1,000,000th member, Anytime Fitness clubs all over the country are giving away more than $400,000 worth of free annual memberships.  Nearly 700 participating Anytime Fitness clubs each chose one or more lucky individuals to receive "scholarships" valued at approximately $500 apiece.

The winning applicants in Anytime Fitness' "Feel Like a Million" campaign described a wide variety of challenges to leading healthier lifestyles – from economic hardships to time constraints and physical limitations – but all of the winners expressed a strong desire to improve the quality of their own lives through regular exercise, and vowed to "pay it forward" if given the opportunity.

The scholarship winners include:

• Courtney Hennis and Marnie Korteum of Madelia, MN:  Sisters who each have endured hysterectomies and double mastectomies to fight a rare form of breast cancer.  Courtney and Marnie are using exercise to strengthen their bodies, and Marnie recently won a local arm wrestling contest.
• Debbie Matney of Lake Murray, SC:  A wife and mother of two who recently had to resign from a job because she was so out of shape. Debbie hopes that by exercising regularly she'll be able to return to work and inspire other family members, who also suffer from obesity-related medical conditions, to turn their lives around.
• Terry Newton of Greeley, CO:  A 53-year-old husband, father and grandfather of four (with one more on the way) who realizes he needs to make better choices if he hopes to get the most out of life for years to come.  "You only get one chance to lead a full and productive life," Terry says.  "I'm not going to squander this opportunity."
