Appointments to the Canadian Transportation Agency

Mandates for Mr. William G. McMurray, Mr. P. Paul Fitzgerald and Mr. Stephen Campbell

OTTAWA, June 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced appointments to the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) of Mr. William G. McMurray and Mr. P. Paul Fitzgerald of Ottawa and Mr. Stephen Campbell of Saint. John, New Brunswick.

Mr. McMurray, appointed for a four-year term, was vice-chairperson of the Canada Industrial Relations Board in Ottawa. For over 10 years he was a course lecturer at McGill University in Montreal, teaching on transportation law and regulation, focussing on the work of the CTA. He has practiced administrative law for over 20 years, successfully conducting public hearings in both official languages before a variety of federal tribunals, including important cases at the CTA. Mr. McMurray has also previously been legal counsel to Canadian National Railway Company in Montreal, and to Canadian Pacific Limited in Toronto and Montreal.

Mr. Fitzgerald is completing an earned Doctorate in Law at McGill University's Institute of Air and Space Law, where he designed and taught two master's-level courses including one on "Government Regulation of Air Transport." He has 25 years of experience and has worked as an aviation lawyer, a consultant, law professor and transport policy advisor to the federal government on aviation, rail and marine matters. He championed Canada's Blue Skies policy and helped promote changes to the Canada Transportation Act and the Canada Marine Act. He was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003 and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. He is appointed to the CTA for a four-year term.

Mr. Campbell is President and Chief Executive Officer of Regent Strategies, an Atlantic Canadian consulting practice that specializes in board governance. He served as a Chairman of the Saint John Port Authority for six years, overseeing significant growth in the Port's business, with increases in the number of cruise ship passengers and container and cargo volumes moving through the port. Prior to his retirement in 2008, Mr. Campbell was vice-president of Royal Bank of Canada Dominion Securities and held executive roles at Midland Walwyn Capital Inc., Scotia Bond Company and the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce. He holds three professional designations in Investment and Fiduciary Management, and has been a leader in numerous industry and community organizations. Mr. Campbell's appointment is for three years.
