The earliest stages of Michael Phelps Swimming instruction help children build a healthy relationship with the water so they can become safe, comfortable and confident swimmers. The Michael Phelps Swim Method line, developed and designed by Aqua Sphere in close cooperation with Michael Phelps Swimming, is intended to help parents encourage fun and water safety with products that are appropriate for their child's age and ability.
LEVEL ONE – GET WET: SPLASH
Level one, for young children between six months and three years, uses repetition and play in a one-on-one setting with the parent or caregiver to acclimate young children to being in the water. The Michael Phelps Swim Method Baby Seat lets parents have the child in the water with them to help the child feel safe and supported. The baby seat has a unique catamaran shape design with side air chambers for a low and stable body position in the water so the child can start to experience buoyancy. The low position also facilitates easy face-to-face interaction with the parent.
LEVEL TWO – PRE-BEGINNER: FLOAT
This level helps children three years and older become comfortable under the water and floating in the water. The Swim Vest is a valuable buoyancy aid for children learning to float on their stomachs and backs. The design incorporates a handle on the back to allow parents to modify the child's body position as he or she is moving through the water. The swim vest comes in two sizes, with multiple adjustment straps to ensure a comfortable, customized, secure fit. The comfortable Arm Floats also offer a buoyancy aid for learning and gaining confidence in the water. The arm floats have dual, redundant buoyancy from soft fabric-wrapped foam plus an inflatable bladder, to give a secure, customized and comfortable fit.
LEVEL THREE –BEGINNER: SWIM
At this stage, children are learning how to streamline their body and incorporate rhythmic breathing into the basic freestyle and backstrokes. They are also learning underwater breath control and the Michael Phelps Swim Method Dive Rings encourage that skill and boost the new swimmer's confidence. The colorful rings are designed to stand up in the water, making them easy to grasp, and their multiple-textured construction encourages tactile development.
LEVEL FOUR – ADVANCED BEGINNER: TRAIN
Advanced beginners can swim partial laps and work to refine their stroke and breathing techniques. The Kickboard, designed with cutouts for various hand positions and curvature at the front of the board, allows swimmers to put their face in the water, encouraging proper streamline technique and providing a chance to practice rhythmic rotary breathing during kick drills.
